Mortal Kombat II hits theaters May 15, 2026. The 2021 original found its audience despite a theatrical-and-streaming-day-one release during COVID restrictions. Since then it built a following on Max. The sequel has a bigger budget, more of the game's iconic fighters, and a clear mandate from Warner Bros. to build this into a franchise. If you liked the first one, the sequel is going to be louder and bloodier.
Cast and What's New in Mortal Kombat II
The core cast from 2021 returns. Lewis Tan as Cole Young anchors the human side of the story. Joe Taslim's Sub-Zero and Josh Lawson's Kano were standouts in the original — both are expected back in some capacity. The sequel expands the fighter roster significantly, introducing more of the iconic game characters that couldn't fit in the first film's setup. Shang Tsung (Chin Han) has unfinished business. The tournament structure from the games is now fully established.

MaxWhen Will MK2 Hit Streaming?
Mortal Kombat II releases May 15 theatrically. Based on Warner Bros. current streaming windows, expect it to land on Max approximately 45 days after theatrical — which puts a digital and Max premiere somewhere in late June or early July 2026. The 2021 film was day-and-date on Max; that deal structure ended in 2022. This one is a full theatrical release first.
