Introduction

fivo.to ("we", "us", "our") is a movie and TV discovery platform. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why, and how, in plain language aligned with GDPR and similar privacy regulations.

We do not sell your data. We do not share personal information with third parties for commercial purposes. Where advertising is used on this site, it is disclosed below — see the Advertising section.

Data We Collect and Why

1. Preferences Data (Essential — stored locally, no server)

Your region selection, dark/light theme preference, and cookie consent choice are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to fivo.to servers. Clearing your browser data removes it entirely.

2. Watchlist (stored securely — anonymous)

If you save movies or shows to your watchlist, that list is stored server-side, keyed by a randomly generated UUID created by your browser on first use. We do not link this UUID to any personal identity, email address, or account. The UUID is stored in your browser's localStorage. Clearing your localStorage permanently deletes your access to the watchlist (we cannot recover it for you).

What we store per watchlist entry: TMDB media ID and media type (movie or TV). No title text, no images, no personal data.

3. Comments (stored securely — pseudonymous)

If you post a comment, we store the comment text, a one-way hash of your IP address (not the raw IP), a timestamp, and the content item it refers to. We cannot reverse the hash to identify you. Comments are moderated and may be removed for violations of our community standards.

4. Web Analytics (consent-gated, privacy-first)

We use a privacy-first web analytics service to understand how visitors discover and use fivo.to. This service is activated only with your consent (see Cookie Consent section below).

Our analytics service is fundamentally different from most analytics tools:

• It collects no cookies
• It collects no personal data (no name, email, device fingerprint, or cross-site tracking)
• It does not track you across different websites
• Data is aggregated and anonymised before we see it — we only see page view counts, traffic sources, and device categories
• The provider processes this data under a Data Processing Agreement (DPA)

If you decline analytics consent, the analytics script is never loaded on your device. Period.

5. Advertising (Google AdSense)

fivo.to uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to fivo.to and other sites on the internet.
• You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info.
• For users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, personalised ads require your explicit consent. We use Google's consent framework for this — the existing analytics consent banner does not cover ad personalisation. A separate prompt will be shown before personalised ads are activated.

6. Region Estimation (optional)

On your first visit, if no region preference is stored, fivo.to automatically estimates your country based on your network location so we can show relevant streaming providers by default. This geotargeting is handled through our regional infrastructure partner, ipto.to. Only your approximate network-level location is used — no personal data is transmitted. You can change your region at any time using the region selector, after which no further estimation is performed.

Cookie Consent & Your Choices

When you first visit fivo.to, a consent banner gives you control over what data you share:

• Essential only: No analytics. Only your local preferences and watchlist work.
• Accept all: Enables anonymous web analytics (page-view data only).
• Customise: Toggle analytics on or off individually and save your preference.

Your consent choice is saved in localStorage under the key fivoto_cookie_consent. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage or by contacting us. We do not use cookies for consent storage — only localStorage.

Passive consent (analytics only): If you ignore the banner and continue browsing (scroll or click elsewhere on the page) for approximately 30 seconds without explicitly declining, we activate anonymous statistical measurement under legitimate interest. This applies only to our cookieless, non-identifying analytics — it does not activate advertising cookies or ad personalisation. Our analytics collects no personal data and uses no cookies, which aligns with guidance from most EU data protection authorities for purely statistical, non-identifying measurement tools. Ad personalisation for EEA/UK/CH users requires a separate explicit opt-in.

Third-Party Services We Use

• Google AdSense / Google LLC: We use Google AdSense to serve ads on fivo.to. Google may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies on this site to serve personalised ads based on your visits here and elsewhere. Review Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses data from ad partners.
• The Movie Database (TMDB): All movie, TV, and streaming availability data is sourced from the TMDB API. Images are served from TMDB's CDN (image.tmdb.org). TMDB may log requests to their API and CDN. Review TMDB's privacy policy.
• Infrastructure provider: fivo.to is served via a global content delivery network. Our infrastructure provider may log IP addresses at the network level as part of standard infrastructure operation.
• Trailer embeds: When you play a trailer, it loads from a third-party video platform. That platform's own privacy practices apply when you interact with the embedded player.
• Streaming platforms: When you click a "Watch on [Platform]" link, you leave fivo.to and are subject to that platform's own privacy practices.
• awl.sh (Content Intelligence Partner): fivo.to uses awl.sh to verify and enrich streaming availability data across global markets. awl.sh operates as a web intelligence platform and processes publicly accessible signals on our behalf to confirm regional streaming availability. No personal data about you is transmitted to awl.sh in connection with your use of fivo.to.
• ipto.to (Geotargeting Partner): ipto.to powers our regional availability detection — the geotargeting layer that estimates your country on first visit and ensures fivo.to surfaces streaming options that are actually licensed in your region. Your approximate network location (country-level) is resolved through ipto.to's geolocation infrastructure. No further personal data beyond this approximate location signal is used, and you can override the detected region at any time using the region selector.

Data Retention

• localStorage data (preferences, watchlist UUID, consent): until you clear your browser data
• Watchlist entries: stored indefinitely until you delete them or clear your localStorage (which removes access to the UUID key)
• Comments: retained until deletion is requested or until removed by moderation
• Analytics aggregates: retained per our analytics provider's data retention policy
• Enrichment cache: cached server-side for up to 24 hours, then refreshed

Your Rights (GDPR & equivalents)

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access: request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
• Erasure: request deletion of your data — clear your localStorage to remove local data; email us to remove any comments associated with your IP hash
• Rectification: request correction of inaccurate data
• Object: object to processing under legitimate interest (e.g. the passive analytics consent)
• Portability: receive your data in a structured, commonly used format
• Withdraw consent: at any time, clear your fivoto_cookie_consent localStorage entry to reset consent to default (analytics off)

Children's Privacy

fivo.to is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We will post any changes on this page with an updated date. For significant changes, we will reset the consent banner so you can review the updated terms before analytics activates again.
